Once again the Swanson School led the field at the 2013 Carnegie Science Awards, with three members of the Bioengineering faculty among this year's recipients.

ASME elects Dr. Richard Debski as Fellow

The Department of Bioengineering recognizes Richard E. Debski, PhD, associate professor of bioengineering, who was elected as an ASME Fellow.

Bioengineering alumnus Dr. Jonathan Vande Geest receives prestigious Y.C. Fung Young Investigator Award for 2013

Jonathan P. Vande Geest, who received his PhD in Bioengineering at Pitt in 2005, was named the 2013 recipient of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ (ASME) Y.C. Fung Young Investigator Award, which honors bioengineering researchers whose work makes great strides in changing the field.

Dr. David Vorp appointed Associate Dean for Research at Swanson School

David A. Vorp, PhD, William Kepler Whiteford Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering, was appointed Associate Dean for Research at the Swanson School.

Dr. Steven Abramowitch receives 2012 Swanson School of Engineering Diversity Award

Steven Abramowitch, PhD, assistant professor of bioengineering, was named the 2012 recipient of the Swanson School’s Award for Diversity, “in recognition of his significant contributions to enhancing and supporting diversity in the Swanson School of Engineering.”

NSF Awards Bioengineering PhD Candidate Amy Chaya for Research in Bone Fracture Repair

Amy Chaya, a fourth-year bioengineering PhD candidate placed third in the fall 2012 NSF ERC Student Elevator Pitch Competition.

Bioengineering selects first McGinnis Fellow

Alexander Malkin, a Bioengineering PhD candidate at the Swanson School of Engineering,was selected as the Department’s first recipient of the Gerald E. McGinnis Bioengineering Graduate Fellowship in Innovative Medical Technology Development.

For the first time, enrollment in the Bioengineering core class taught by Dr. Lance Davidson eclipsed 100 students.
